A Brief History of Viktor Bakhtin

Viktor was born in the siberian city of Krasnoyark in 1951. He came from an old noble family on his father's side and a peasant family on his mother's side. Nature and arts aroused his interests and admiration from his earliest years. In his childhood Viktor dreamed of being a violinist, but a physical trauma, the result of a climbing accident, prevented him from realizing this dream, so he began to publish his charicatures(cartoons) in the local newspapers.

Then he illustrated more than 70 books and gained a reputation as one of the leading book designers in Siberia. Illustrating the Red Data Book of Central Siberia, Viktor took part in numerous scientific expeditions where he was involved in the creation of films about cranes. Thus, one day he met Geoge Archibald, director of the International Crane Foundation, who advised him to paint paintings of nature. It was a new field for Viktor, but he liked challenges, so he tried. Now there are many of his paintings in Sweden, Holland, Spain, England, South Africa, Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S.A.

Since 1994, Viktor has lived in Wisconsin. He has done much traveling during those five years. "As for me, no fantasy is comparable to suprising reality", Viktor says. He tries to share his endless admiration of nature with others.
